Our bodies have been designed to obtain energy from food and expend it through movement and exercise. What does not get used up will store as fat. Let’s face it once and for all, dieting is not a long term solution for losing weight. If you want to lose the pounds efficiently or just tone up and feel great, you have to get moving.
How much and what sort of exercise do you need for general fitness? Ideally, we would exercise for 40-45 minutes six times per week doing a combination of aerobic, strength and flexibility routines. However, for many new moms this may not be a realistic schedule initially. If you are not used to working out or are hard pressed for time, ten minutes every day is much better than nothing and you can build up from there.
Many moms today find that taking their baby along for a daily walk in a carrier accomplishes several things. Mom gets to move while bonding with baby and taking in fresh air. Babies love to be in this position! Additionally, they are amused by the surroundings and fall asleep due to the rocking motion and closeness to mom.
